Data management and data sharing for trusted AI applications

Lulea, Sweden
14/06/2023
The concept of Data Spaces is included in the European Data Strategy as secure and trusted environments for the exchange, sharing, and use of data. Based on that, data space solutions are emerging within European research programmes based on technological specifications, towards increasing interoperability. Furthermore, such information systems will need to comply with currently evolving regulatory frameworks. In such an evolving development environment, all pieces must fit together eventually to make European data economy a reality. In addition to interoperability, the value of data spaces evolves from how the data is managed, the quality of the data being shared, and what kind of services they can facilitate. Data management and trustworthy AI will build on top of the data spaces design principles, and in fact, these aspects may introduce requirements to data space design. In BDVA, the Data Spaces task force works on understanding the value of data spaces and its relationship of big data, and trustworthy AI. On the other hand, the projects working on the topic “Technologies for data management” of the Horizon Europe Programme (Data-01-03) are shaping with their contributions the future of Data Spaces. This workshop is part of our endeavor to enrich data spaces development towards value in services exploiting the stack of data spaces, data management and AI technology. The objective of the session is to discuss about how data spaces and the building blocks and tools that are being developed in the research projects can allow the successful implementation and deployment of data driven and trustworthy AI applications exploiting data space approach. The session will rely on the insights and learnings resulting from previous discussions (in the context of BDVA previously organized workshops), on top of which projects developing advanced technologies for data management (SEDIMARK, Waterverse, STELAR, enRichMyData, HPLT) will explain how they could enable the deployment of AI based services and applications.
